Professor Jonathan Van-Tam undertakes gym inspections as part of reopening process

Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England has been visiting gyms, leisure centres and swimming pools as part of the impending reopening process. Ukactive, a fitness industry trade association, reported that the delegation comprised government officials , Sport England and public health officials. There are three Deputy Chief Medical Officer with Professor Van-Tam leading on health protection.

Swim England chief executive Jane Nickerson later commented: “I am pleased to update everyone that the visit today was positive. We still await an official announcement when pools can reopen again but we see this a positive sign that things are moving in the right direction.”

Staged reopening of indoor fitness across the UK

What seems increasingly likely, is that indoor fitness venues across the four nations will be opening at different stages given variations in the viral reproduction rates across the United Kingdom.
