>I was reading an interesting article by Scott Carney -‘Medical Refugees Flee to India‘ on the Wired News web site. A medical refugee is someone without insurance needing medical treatment as distinct from ‘medical tourists’ who are often travelling for non-urgent, cosmetic procedures. The USA has about 46 million adults without medical insurance. However, the term ‘refugee’ suggests mobility, but I wonder how many Americans without insurance possess the financial resources to travel?
I’ve often wondered how big a threat this trend is to the health club and weight management industries. Why pay £900 a year for a health club membership to manage your weight when you can buy liposuction at a private clinic in Paris for £700? Health clubs may argue that they offer far more, but do they?
