Given that most of the UK national media regularly write about those `nasty` health club contracts with long notice periods, I thought I would chip in with my thoughts.
I find the policy difference between the main health club chains very interesting. Esporta insist on 12-month contracts with a three-month notice period, while Virgin Active prefer 30-day contracts. So will the long-term trend be short or long-term contracts? Should it be easy to leave a health club or made difficult so that people stay committed to their exercise regime? The majority of health clubs in New Zealand sell 12 to 36-month contracts. I wonder if UK clubs will follow suit?
Are you a former member who feel foul of a club’s leaving terms? Or perhaps a club owner who has experimented with different contracts lengths to influence member retention. Please leave your comments. I would love to hear from you
