>I was reading through a Sport England publication today which outlined which sports were showing the fastest rates of growth in adult participation. Participation in a sport is defined as a 30-minute session of ‘moderate’ intensity undertaken at least once-weekly.
The data table they published did not look visually interesting, so I have given it a makeover.
This illustration shows the 10 sports with the largest growth in the total number of people taking part. It shows that athletics, cycling and football have attracted the largest number of new participants. Athletics added 260,000 new participants in a year. Clearly, there is the Beijing ‘Olympic effect‘ to remember in these numbers and the challenge now is to retain these new sports converts.
