What a mixed month in the fortunes of Esporta, the UK-based premium health, fitness and racquets club. Just a few weeks ago, the brand’s Thorpe Wood club was revealed as winner of club of the year at this year’s Fitness Leadership and Management Excellence (FLAME) award ceremony in Birmingham. A great achievement given Esporta’s parent company is presently in administration and the clubs are up for sale. Fast-forward a few short weeks and the brand’s reputation is being tarnished having lost an employment tribunal case with £10,000 being awarded to a former member of staff who alleged sexual harassment from a line manager. Paul Dacre who works in the Bradford club was found guilty, along with Esporta of sexual harassment, wrongful dismissal, and victimization.
What a shame that people like Dacre have chosen the health and fitness industry as a career choice.
